Millions of the mouthless dead,
Across your dreams in pale battalions go,
Say no soft things as other men,
They won’t remember, you need not so
Give them no praise, deaf, they do not hear
Shed no tears for they are blind, there is no honor
Because it’s easy to be dead

Victor and vanquished are one in death
Coward and brave, friend or foe
Ghosts do not say, what did you do with breath?
Because a blot has hid yesterday
So poor, manifestly, incomplete.
Your bright promise, withered long and spent
